Good Content: More Important Than Ever
Content is all around us. Its undeniably the cornerstone of marketing. But before we can go into why content is still holding its relevance and why it matters, we should discuss what exactly is good content and what is poor content.
Good content is often thought of as something eye catching, engaging and informative and all of this is true but the most effective content ultimately, answers a question. This then, by default, is engaging because its relevant in providing helpful information. Another vital aspect of good content is presenting the content in a way that feels like it was written for humans as opposed to search engines. People like to feel as though they are having genuine interaction with their content and using language that will get at the top of the search list isn't the way to get there. Perhaps most importantly, having a unique spin on the information in your content is what really separates good content from great content. Because it requires a bit of creativity to obtain that unique perspective, not every brand is great at finding that diferecianting spark. If your content can manage achieving all of these, you're bound to have a positive response from you content.
Now for some of the factors that take your content into what we refer to as the 'poor' sector. Consumers are savvy, and because they are constantly surrounded by content they are keenly aware of when they are being duped. ALL marketing is done to coerce the consumer in a particular direction, there is no denying this, but trying to blatantly trick or manipulate the consumer is a big no no. They can feel it and it doesn't sit well. Another very fast way to create poor content is with spelling and grammatical errors. It tends to stick out like a sore thumb and completely downgrades the credibility of the content. Lastly and certainly not least, is to not be
lacking general creativity. Push the boundaries. Creative an edgy concept. Be bold and different. Otherwise, your content will fade away without any real impact.
A recent studyfound that although a larger percentage of participants have grown to rely on web content than just a few years ago, 65% of them find web content is “hit or miss” or “unreliable”.
But why is good content still relevant? Good content is is just a portion of a well thought out marketing plan where one smaller element fits into a larger strategy. Good marketing drives organic traffic back to your sites. Thus increasing exposure of your brand and services and intern, increasing your ROI (return on investment). If consumers spend even just 10-15 seconds interpreting easy to find, easy to understand information, they are more then more inclined to provide engagement with the site itself. All of this helps reach the top of search engine results and increases brand awareness allowing your business to truly flourish.
